He is released from prison (1990) and becomes the first black president of a democratic South Africa in 1994. Steven Biko takes up the fight against apartheid while Nelson Mandela is in prison. He uses his theory of Black Consciousness to empower the mindset of the Black Majority living under White Minority rule in S.Africa. He makes the ultimate sacrifice and is killed(1977) by a totalitarian regime of legalized racial separateness. Oscar Romero is a Catholic Priest, Archbishop, who uses Liberation Theology to speak for the poor and disenfranchised Salvadoran people as he challenges the military dictatorship of El Salvador during the Civil War (1979-1992).He is murdered while performing the Eucharist in mass in 1980. Mohandas Gandhi is an activist against British Imperialism in India. He uses the theory of Civil Disobedience to shame the British Empire into granting self-rule for India. He is assassinated by a fellow Hindu who feels Gandhis’ plan for an independent India is too generous to the plight of the Muslim minority in India. Oscar Schindler is an industrialist and a member of the Nazi party during WWII . He will protect the Jewish workers in his factories by using his fortune to bribe individuals to keep the secret of his outwitting the Nazis.Those workers, over 1200, will become known as Schindler’s List. Schindler, an imperfect man, will be, initially labeled as a profiteer of slave labor. Once his true actions are revealed , he will be heralded as a hero and buried in Israel as a righteous man among nations.
